DR. COHN is a Professor of Clinical Medicine and Medical Director of the UHealth Preoperative Assessment Center (UPAC) and the Medical Consultation Services at Jackson Memorial Hospital and the University of Miami Hospital – Miller School of Medicine, having recently relocated to Miami after 30 years at the State University of New York - Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn. He was the former Chief of the Division of General Internal Medicine and Associate Medical Director for Performance Improvement at Downstate and also the Director of the Preoperative Medical Consultation Clinic and Medical Consultation Service at Kings County Hospital Center. He was responsible for education and supervision of senior medical residents in both in-patient and ambulatory care settings.

After receiving his medical degree from the University of Monterrey, Dr. Cohn completed his residency in internal medicine at SUNY - Downstate Medical Center. He is a fellow of the American College of Physicians (ACP), a senior fellow of the Society for Hospital Medicine (SHM), a member of the Society of General Internal Medicine (SGIM), and a board member of the Society for Perioperative Assessment and Quality Improvement (SPAQI).

His clinical and research interests include perioperative medicine, particularly cardiac risk evaluation and management, venous thromboembolic disease, anticoagulation, and the teaching of medical consultation. Dr. Cohn is a frequently requested grand rounds speaker and has presented research findings and coordinated educational workshops at numerous national professional meetings (ACP, SGIM, SHM) and seminars, served as the Guest Editor for the Medical Clinics of North America, and written book chapters and articles that have appeared in peer-reviewed journals including the Annals of Internal Medicine, Journal of Hospital Medicine, Journal of General Internal Medicine, Anesthesiology, and co-authored multiple topics in UpToDate. He wrote the chapter on Preoperative Evaluation for Cecil's Textbook of Medicine and the section on Perioperative Medicine in MKSAP XV. He is also the author/editor of several books - Perioperative Medicine (Springer, 2011), Perioperative Medicine - Just the Facts (McGraw Hill, 2006), and section editor for medical consultation in Comprehensive Hospital Medicine (Elsevier, 2007). Dr. Cohn has been named in Castle Connolly’s Top Doctors in the New York Metro area annually since 1997 and was also listed in New York Magazine's Best Doctors 2010 and 2011.
